Polar Bear Cubs: Very Hungry Bears

Shot on my first visit to Churchill, Hudson Bay, Canada in November 2008 with the Canon 1Ds Mark III, 800mm f/4 and 1.4x TC II from a tundra buggy

This was my first visit to Hudson Bay where photographers and animal lovers flock to the area in early November, riding around Hudson Bay's frozen shoreline in large tundra buggies. The goal was to see and photograph polar bears migrating back to Hudson Bay as they wait for the Bay to freeze over. They're anxious to hunt/eat seals after spending their summer further south without food for four months. Bears in this area are mostly male and some are moms with yearlings. The bears typically lounge around the shoreline, conserving all of their energy, as they wait to walk out onto the ice. Since the ice has been freezing later and melting early each year, the season for bears to hunt and eat and getting shorter and shorter. Regarding whether you believe in global warming or not, the reality for these bear is real and dire. Please help save the planet.
