Polar Bear Cubs: Romp and Roll Twins
Shot at Wat'chee Lodge, 40 miles South of Hudson Bay, Churchill, Canada in March 2013 with the Canon 1Dx, 800mm f/4 and 1.4x TC III
This was my most favorite polar bear trip out of 8 visits to Hudson Bay, Manitoba. After my first Arctic visit where we rode in warm tundra buggies, I sought out finding polar bear babies located in the Wapusk National Park denning area. To get there, we took a train from Churchill, got dropped off on the tundra late at night in the middle of nowhere, and then drove to this private family lodge in modified snow vehicles. After getting there, the tricky part was finding them and trying to stay warm yet comfy in 17 lbs. of clothing in minus 50 degree, windy weather. There are approx. 200 reusable dens in this area but you never know which ones were occupied.
Anyway, I called these over the top cuties the Romp and Roll twins; and, they were the most animated polar bear cubs that I've ever seen. They still bring smiles to my heart.
